Securing Leadership Scholarships

Leadership is defined as “one who can inspire others, gain their support and enlist them when needed.” Leadership is a quality that should be rewarded an luckily it is. We often view leaders as mature people who have a vast amount of experience to draw upon. So, it is rare when you find a young person with relatively no experience being viewed as a leader. Fortunately, colleges are noticing the need for leaders within their school and rewarding students with scholarships who exude those leadership qualities. This post is designed to teach you about what colleges are looking for in order to give away a leadership scholarship.

Probably the biggest factor that colleges look at to determine a leader is volunteer work. We know it sounds corny but if you don’t have any extracurricular activities, community work or volunteer work you probably don’t have a really good shot at winning a leadership scholarship. In our opinion, colleges view on “leadership” could be warped. Just because you volunteer or do community work doesn’t mean you are a leader. Nevertheless, our goal with this site is to help YOU get a scholarship and when it comes to leadership scholarships your best shot is to stock up on volunteer work so you can be an attractive candidate to choose from.

Scholarships For Leadership

Now that you know what it takes to improve your chances to win a leadership scholarship we can get into the meat and potatoes of this post, the actual scholarships for leadership. We do have a lot of scholarships to share with you on this subject so make sure you check them all out. Also, if you don’t have much experience volunteering but you feel you are a born leader then you definitely need to start finding volunteer work.

  • Comcast Leadership- Each year Comcast gives away a $1,000 scholarship to a student who shows he/she is a leader by volunteering in the community, college and have helped shape what the community is.
  • Christopher Reeve Scholarship- You have to be a high school senior to apply for this scholarship (sorry non high school seniors icon sad Securing Leadership Scholarships ). Again, this one pays $1,000 for many of the same reasons the scholarship above does. Young youths who demonstrate compassion and a willingness to help the community will do well with this award.
